Church Management Software - A
Vital Part of the Solution For Church Growth
By Dennis Antunes
A church may have great difficulties growing and spreading
its wonderful message without successful administration of its
resources such as its members, church groups, missions, and
offerings. Church management software greatly facilitates the
administration and planning so the church can prosper.
It is wonderful being part of a well managed church, where
the focus of the church is worship, spiritual growth, and
evangelism. The church membership consistently grows with
visitors quickly becoming part of the church family. The staff
knows the spiritual gifts of its members and supplies them with
many opportunities to exercise them. The church does not ignore
conflicts, but confronts and resolves them in a loving way.
There is always a church activity to participate regardless of
the time or day of the week. Any church member can paraphrase
their church vision and knows how he or she is contributing to
the vision. Undoubtedly, the church uses church management
software to simplify the administrative aspects.
Unfortunately, not all churches are at this state. Some
churches no longer have the focus on spreading the Word of God.
Instead, the church becomes stuck in management quagmire and
concentrates instead on organizational issues. Without church
software, it strains to cover basic budgetary needs and
struggles to retain membership. It feels starved for leadership
within its members and cannot find those willing or even
qualified to help. Conflict is commonplace and a small minority
performs most of the work in the church. Visitors come and go
without much follow up.
Without proper church administration, most of the effort
goes toward the struggle to stay open instead of spreading the
Good News. Without a suitable church management, it becomes
difficult to find the leadership within the members. It becomes
easy to loose track of visitors, missing the important follow
up. Upgrading your church management software can organize your
church in such a way that these mundane issues all but
disappear.
Even so, many of these struggling churches continue to use
makeshift databases to manage the many aspects of the church.
They recognize the need for church software, but fail to find a
unifying solution. There can be as many databases and as many
different applications as there are areas and projects. A
church may have a church membership database, an offering and
tithes database, and as many Sunday school classroom databases
as there are classes (some not even accessible by the church
staff). Many projects and study groups may not even be included
in any database and because of this disconnect, gathering
useful data becomes very cumbersome, time consuming, and
sometimes outright impossible.
This is bleak depiction focuses on the managerial aspects
within the church and purposely excludes the many blessings
that a church receives, regardless of its size or success. It
is a grim picture, but sadly enough, all-too-familiar to many
churches. Church software can remove seemingly vast barriers
keeping a church from growing.
Church management software is designed specifically to unify
all the aspects of the church into one database that includes
areas such as visitors tracking, church membership management,
spiritual gifts management, church leadership management,
church projects management, tithes, offerings, and capital
campaign management, fund raiser management, and even church
member spiritual growth management among many other areas.
Church software is a powerful tool that will dramatically
increase your staff capabilities and simplify the
administration of your church. This will allow you to focus on
the big picture, on the vision and the strategy instead of on
management.
When utilizing church management software, a better
understanding of each member will result, allowing for greater
empowerment and fulfillment. An active member that is
contributing to the success of the church is much less likely
to leave than a member that feels he or she is not needed or
unable to serve. Allowing each member to contribute according
to his or her skills and spiritual gifts is vital to the growth
of the church. Managing member skills and spiritual gifts will
also allow for a uniform distribution of workload throughout
the church membership. This will have two positive effects: it
will minimize burning out the more active members, and will
keep most members active and productive resulting in happy
members, less likely to create conflict in the church.
If your church is struggling and spending more time managing
than evangelizing, consider updating your Church Management Software church
management software. You will be very glad you did it!
